ASSISTED CHAMPION 2021-22

MARK HAGGER

Our aim is to follow & support Surfer Mark Hagger with his future goals within the Adaptive Surfing community.

The voluntary team are mainly based in Bournemouth, on the south coast of England - it’s not the greatest spot for surfing but we all get in whenever there are waves.

Adaptive Surfing has been growing quite a bit since 2015 ISA (International Surfing Association).

After huge success in 2021, Mark Hagger has smashed 2022 wining both the Welsh Adaptive / Para Surfing Championships & English Adaptive Surfing Open. This December Mark is in Pismo Beach, where the event will bring the top Para Surfers from around the world to compete for world champion.

THE BACKSTORY

HOW IT ALL

STARTED

Thursday 8th July 2021 Mark entered the English Adaptive Surfing Open & won the Assisted Adaptive Surf Championship - which took place at The Wave, Bristol.

Leading up to this Day, Mark had to overcome huge challenges by continuously stepping out of his comfort zones, and having to learn how to adapt to the changing circumstances that life's cards dealt him.

It wasn't easy for Mark after being diagnosed with progressive MS, then having to learn that not everyone's MS is the same, (you might have relapsing remitting MS, secondary progressive MS or primary progressive MS).

As every persons experiences are different with MS, only that person can evaluate or reinvent perspectives in life and the choices they must make no matter how small or insignificant they may feel.

Knowing how much surfing meant to Mark before his MS, it was only a matter of time until the day he decided he had to adapt and become comfortable with the ever-changing life ahead of him. With that adaptation, it became clear that his desire was to be back in the water with new expectations and embracing the new opportunities within Adaptive Surfing.
